Abbott’s father and mother performed with the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus and introduced their son as a child to the spotlight in the ring Bud was serving as a cashier in a New York vaudeville theatre when Lou Costello and the straight man of their comedy act were scheduled to appear Lou’s partner becomes ill and cannot go on stage so he asks Bud to take the straight man’s place The pairing was a smash hit and they traveled the vaudeville circuit and starred in movies together for more than a quarter of a century TV serials and movies: “The Abbott and Costello Show” 1952-1955 First cinematic movie (as Abbott and Costello): “Buck Privates” 1941
