Raised in Danville, Illinois where he excelled as an actor in his high school drama club Moves to New York and secures leading roles on Broadway including “Bye Bye Birdie” World War II: Enlists in the United States Army Air Force and serves as an actor and narrator for newsreel films and as a broadcaster for the troops After the war, settles in Hollywood for television and movie roles but continues acting on stage TV serials and movies: “The Phil Silvers Show” 1957-59 “Dick Van Dyke Show” 1961-66 “New Dick Van Dyke Show” 1971-74 “Diagnosis Murder” 1993-2002 First cinematic movie: “Bye Bye Birdie” 1963
