York   Son of a Pullman Railcar Porter  Gossett aspired to be NBA basketball player but after breaking his leg, enrolled in acting classes and received leading roles in Broadway plays beginning at seventeen years of age    TV serials and movies: “Roots” 1977  “Sedat” 1983  Academy Award Best Supporting Actor in “An Officer and a Gentleman” 1982   First cinematic movie: “A Raisin in the Sun” 1961
